Robert Heindel
Robert Heindel is one of the most illustrious
graduates of Famous Artists School. In the last twenty years, he has become
known as a modern-day Degas for his paintings evoking the many facets
of the world of ballet. He is fascinated by dancers because, combining
body and brains, they "present the greatest vehicle for me to show what
I want to show." Heindel works in oils, pastels, and conte crayons; his
style communicates the power, the strength, and the breathless grace of
his subjects, who are nearly always shown in rehearsal rather than in
performance. Heindel has portrayed dancers from LondonŐs Royal Ballet,
the Birmingham Royal Ballet, the Scottish Ballet and Monte Carlo Ballet
Company, and has also designed the set and costumes for the Birmingham
Royal BalletŐs production of The Dancehouse. He exhibits his work
internationally, and has had frequent shows in Japan, where he painted
performers from the Noh and Kabuki theatre programs. Heindel was invited
by Andrew Lloyd Webber to do a series of paintings of his productions
of Cats and The Phantom of the Opera.
