John Lankford writes: I first enrolled in the painting course in 1965 and the textbooks and instructor's critiques have been a major resource since then. In 2000, I enrolled in the landscape elective course. The quality of instruction is still present! I like the fact that a seasoned pro like Hank was assigned to me throughout my studies. He came to know my art strengths and weaknesses and lesson-by-lesson helped me become more proficient at making paintings. I like the way Hank prepared his transparent color visual critiques. He never touched my original work but by a transparent overlay he would paint over areas that needed help. Hence, I could see what my own work would look like without the mistakes! What a difference that made! He would also take time to answer any concerns that I had written down. One neat thing about FAS instructors is that no matter how good and perfect I thought my painting was, their keen eyes could spot a way to make the painting even better... and oftain they were subtle things but when corrected made a Big difference. Throughout my studies, M.F. Brown has been available to promptly answer my questions by e-mail, chase down facts etc. M.F. Brown has been just fantastic! So, student support at FAS gets an A+. In short... FAS is ...the right printed-material (through Textbooks) + the right people (seasoned pros) + the right methods (personalized responses, visuals) to equal the very best art instruction school in the world!
